These songs were recorded in Corte Madera, CA and Seattle, WA. This was the last batch of songs I wrote before meeting Julian and Eric and forming Half Woke Cowboys.

I remember my creativity-to-ambition ratio being in a good place during this period, where I was excited to get to be creative while I was also grateful to be establishing a non-music career and making things work in the matrix (read: I was feeling historically low concern for being Discovered and becoming an Indie Rock Star).

I remember daydreaming while commuting from the chaos of the SF Financial District to our quiet cabin in Marin, scheming about a concept album whose sole survivor here is the song Passing Over. I think that group of songs marked a turning point when I realized I could tell any story I wanted to, rather than insisting that each song be an autobiographical confessional. This later evolved into permission to blend the confessional and the fictional without the need for caveat (e.g. the album B's Wedding).

These songs also brought up some newly-discovered ugliness, as I found myself writing about my commitment-phobia, people pleasing, and performative self. From there, I believe I developed more trust that I could be honest and specific about my own stuff and still resonate with others.
