These tracks were made by slicing up my J-named* friends' songs with a sampler module in VCV Rack (vcvrack.com), controlling the slice selection and playback with control voltages gated through probabilistic sequential switches.

For each song, I setup each of the patch's 4 samplers to have 4 slice markers, with perceived intensity of the slice increasing from 1 to 4. I then worked my way through the slices on each sampler from 1 to 4 and back down to 1 again, trying to keep the song flowing without ever feeling fully in control of the patch.

The reversed audio resulted in some serendipitous lyrics, which informed the titles. I felt a lot of love for my friends, hearing their likeness even in these little snippets of warped sound.
